Eventually, everything comes full circle! Synergy ECP CEO, Phillip Murphy, spoke at Stevenson University’s President’s Reception about leadership and innovation. As a Stevenson University alumni, Phil was honored to be invited to speak to the university leaders, Board of Trustees, and students. The students were the reason the conversation mattered.
Phil’s speech touched on how innovation starts with asking questions: “Some of my best ideas have come from simply asking, ‘Why do we do it this way?’ Innovation begins with the willingness to question the status quo.”
In our world, innovation isn’t a buzzword. It’s how mission partners stay ahead of threats that keep changing. Leadership is what turns new ideas into something that works. Neither innovation or leadership start at the top of an org chart. Both start with curious people who were given room to ask “what if?” and someone who stood behind them while they found out.
That was the heart of Phil’s message: “Leadership isn’t a title. It’s being the person who takes ownership when something needs to get done. Don’t wait for an invitation. Step up and help move it forward.”
Some of the students in that room will be writing the code, designing the systems and leading the teams that protect this country 10 years from now. Their curiosity and drive left us more excited about what’s ahead than anything we could have said from the podium.
